The environmental benefits of switching to a vegan lifestyle are vast. A plant-based diet uses fewer resources than a traditional one that includes animal products; this means less water is used in production and fewer greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. According to research conducted by the University of Oxford, if everyone switched to a vegan diet global farmland use could be reduced by 75%, an area equivalent to the size of the US, China, Australia, and Europe combined! That’s quite an impressive number! It’s estimated that vegetarian diets can reduce emissions up to 63% compared with non-vegetarian ones this equates roughly to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide per person per year!

Not only is going vegan good for our planet but it can also be beneficial for your health too! Studies have shown that when done correctly a balanced vegan diet can improve heart health and lower cholesterol levels while reducing risk factors associated with certain chronic diseases such as diabetes or cancer. Additionally consuming more fruits and vegetables has been linked with longer life expectancy so there’s every reason why you should get involved in celebrating World Vegan Month this November!
